two female bloggers

There comes a time when some bloggers or content marketers may have some challenges coming up with blog ideas. It’s both common and normal to hit that bump in the road. Writers need to bounce back to avoid further burnout or block.

Fortunately, bloggers or content marketers can find inspiration anywhere on the internet. It takes some time to find the right blog idea that would garner views and engagement.

In this article, we list the ten (and apparently in alphabetical order) ways to find blog ideas when you’re stuck and don’t know what topics to write about.

Ask the Audience

A tried and tested method in coming up with good blog ideas is to consult the audience or readers. Your blog serves to guide, entertain, educate, inform, or persuade your reader. As such, the blog should reflect your audience’s preferences too.

You see, sometimes, your audience may have the experience or (even) authority too. Don’t be afraid to ask your audience or readers. Consider it as user-generated content too, which is a highly valued content type.

You can ask your audience in a blog post, through email, or social media. However, if they don’t generate responses, don’t fret. You have other sources to look through as well.

Here’s a great example of eliciting responses from readers. The New York Times asked their readers of their memories from Notre Dame. This was days after the devastating fire hit the historical cathedral.

It shows that you value what your audience wants and continue to build your relationship with them as well.

Browse Communities

Quora and Reddit are sometimes a gold mine for content marketers or bloggers. What’s great about Quora and Reddit is looking to people for answers on certain issues that some companies or bloggers may have not yet tackled.

Who knows, you might find one of your next blog ideas here.

In this article by Mashable, it sought the best VPNs from Reddit users. Mashable caters to a wide variety of audiences, and in this case, it’s reaching its tech audience.

To further elaborate, Mashable introduced what a VPN was and then listed the six best VPNs that Reddit recommended. As with many other articles or blog posts, they also made revisions when the post was updated.

Compile an Expert Roundup

While your audience can provide solid recommendations and advice (and eventually compelling content for your blog), you’d still want to find the best of the best to establish more authority.

Tap the experts in your field to give them a platform to speak their mind about a certain topic. It not only increases your authority as a blogger or a marketer, but it establishes credibility as well.

Here, Post Planner gathered experts in social media to see which social media apps were the best to download on your smartphone.

The favorite, it seems, is Hootsuite because of its easy management of social media apps in one place. It also monitors keywords, hashtags, and customer feedback.

Craft a List

Listicles are one of the most popular forms of blog post content. It’s skimmable for readers. For writers, you can add related points and target keywords effectively.

You can write any list in the world. It can be about the best types of coffee, your favorite movies, or the worst games you’ve ever played. You can easily think of your next blog ideas through the list.

For inspiration, you may check out the example from The Good Trade. They wrote about eco-friendly handbags and purses. Since many are environmentally conscious, they targeted those who want to stay in style while supporting ethical and eco-friendly products.

Create Guides

As a blogger or marketer, you need to establish your authority to get more readers and reach. Aside from writing blog posts, you need to look into creating guides that your readers or users would appreciate.

It can be something you’re familiar with or something your readers might use in their daily lives.

Here’s an example of an interesting guide you may want to check out. Say, you’re new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or want to catch up on other movies before Avengers: Endgame (or Far From Home, for those who love Spidey as well).

But you’re confused as to which order you need to watch the 23-movie Infinity Saga.

Lola Lambchops provided her readers with two ways to watch the Infinity Saga. First is the release order meaning it starts from the first Iron Man in 2008 up until Spiderman: Far From Home in 2019.

The second is the chronological order, which makes Captain America The First Avenger the first to watch with Far From Home still the last in the series to watch.

Impart Lessons

Experience is the best teacher, as many would say. One of the many things you can write as a blog post is a lesson you’ve learned. Whether you’ve learned or your own or from someone. Whether it happened in the past or recent, it’s always worth reading.

Maybe it’s something you’ve thought of as you were walking along the street or when you attended a conference. If you think about it, not many write about lessons. It might be one of your best blog ideas yet.

In this case, Matthew Kepnes, a Thought Catalog contributor, wrote about the lessons he learned as he traveled around the world. As you travel, sometimes you contemplate on life in general.

Two of his most profound lessons are, you’re never alone and it’s good to try new things. Since those two are also applicable in our daily lives.

The lessons don’t have to be inspirational if that’s not your cup of tea. It can be something about your field of study. For example, here are lessons Jeff Bullas imparts on all marketers.

Trends come and go, sometimes they return. The point is, marketing is never constant. You’ll need to adapt to ensure that you’re always a step ahead.

Offer Recommendations

Perhaps you might be an avid viewer of TV shows and movies from streaming apps, gamer, or foodie, or whatnot. People would love to read what others say about certain themed topics.

Recommendations are good for those looking for something to pique their interest or to try something new.

Here’s an example from Book Riot. What they did was they tapped their contributors on their favorite books of the month and used that as a blog to recommend to their readers.

Provide Tips & Hacks

It’s no secret that many of us want to do things easily or effortlessly. Sometimes we want shortcuts or tips that would make our lives much easier.

If you’ve got tips to share about anything, then, by all means, go for it. People love reading about tips because readers can digest and follow (if they want to, of course).

For Netflix binge-watchers, PCMag presented 22 tips on how to boost binge-watching. Netflix is more than just a streaming app for some, you can share Instagram stories about titles you’re watching, ask Netflix which titles you want to see on the service, and manage users of your account.

Another example of the tips you may encounter is “hacks”. It will make you more efficient and productive when you apply these hacks in your life.

While this is considered more of a roundup from users, their hotel stay hacks are worth noting as well. Hotel hacks can provide a more meaningful (and especially hygienic) experience and stay to other travelers as well.

If you have hacks that can help other people, then share them and who knows, you might spark up conversations and have others talk about it as well. Which, in that case, becomes one of your next blog ideas.

Publish Reviews

You can rave or rant about a certain product, service, or even content. It can guide future users to discern if that product, service, or content would be a good fit in their life.

Product reviews can also be a helpful resource for those wanting to buy a product before purchasing. Your review can guide a customer in their decision-making on their customer journey.

As an example, you can check out Runner Click’s review on the Adidas Ultra Boost

The Ultra Boost is one of the most lauded products in the Adidas line. The shoes are lightweight and durable. It may be on the higher end when it comes to running shoes, but runners believe it’s worth it.

Share Part of Your Personal or Work Life

For bloggers, you can blog about almost anything in your life. So long as you’ve got the readership for it, people will view whatever you read, especially if it’s engaging.

For marketers, blogging about the topics of interest in your company is one of the ways you can attract a lead and enter into a customer journey with them. Sometimes, you might need to be more transparent in terms of what else you can post to your blog which would help you connect with your target audience.

If you want your audience to get to know you better, write about behind the scenes related things. Publish something that can connect you to your audience better, and in turn, they would engage with you.

Amazon’s blog post about bringing dogs to their workplace is an excellent example of letting people know of Amazon’s workplace culture.

You can’t go wrong with dogs (or pets of any kind). Animals tug the heartstrings of many on the internet, and Amazon made the right call in posting a blog about it. In the attached video on the blog, you’ll see the cutest and cuddliest creatures that create a playful and cheerful atmosphere on Amazon.

Final Thoughts

You can find content just about anywhere and use that as your blog posts. You can scour the internet and get inspired to write different types of articles or publish different content types as well. Who knows, maybe you can just get more than what you expect as you search for your next blog idea.
